Jeeva Niriella
Jeeva Niriella is a Senior Professor in Law at the University of Colombo and an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka, with more than three decades of teaching, research, and academic leadership spanning criminal law, criminal justice, human rights, gender justice, environmental justice, juvenile justice, transnational and international crime, and restorative justice. She founded the Faculty of Criminal Justice at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University — the first ever Criminal Justice Faculty in Sri Lanka's tertiary education system — and was the first female director appointed to the board of the Colombo Stock Exchange. Her scholarship — four books, more than twenty book chapters, and over forty peer-reviewed articles published by Cambridge University Press, Routledge, LexisNexis, Springer Nature, HeinOnline and Emerald among others — has shaped national and international debate on victim protection, reconciliation, equity and equality issues, emerging technologies in law and, economic and environmental crimes. In 2019, she was conferred Deshabandu, Sri Lanka's third-highest national honour, in recognition of distinguished service to the country.
